Does it bother you that B.C. courts have ruled that your private property rights to your home and the ground it sits on could be taken away?!
If the “Cowichan” decision is not appealed and over-turned, that could happen, and millions of British Columbians would be turned out of their homes.
But it doesn’t stop, there!
The NDP Eby government has created a situation where permit approvals for natural resources projects can take up to twenty years. Yes, you read that right: TWENTY years!
As a result, British Columbians’ rich resources endowment is locked up. Tight.
The Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) is the B.C. NDP’s version of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
On December 5, 2025, the British Columbia Court of Appeal (BCCA) ruled in Gitxaała v. British Columbia, 2025 BCCA 430 (Gitxaała) that DRIPA implements UNDRIP in British Columbia with immediate legal effect, creating legally enforceable obligations on the Province of British Columbia.
Those obligations could extend to you, your family and neighbours. It would include every business and form of economic activity, including forestry, mining, extraction of oil and gas, hydro and industrial, commercial and residential development projects across our province!
In short, DRIPA would effectively declare, “British Columbia is closed for business.”
Our resources and the opportunities and prospects for jobs that would allow people to build their lives, especially for younger British Columbians, would be locked up. TIGHT.
That is one of the reasons I am running to be the Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia.
